Healthcare Charities coordinates and oversees numerous programs and events throughout the year, all geared toward improving the quality of healthcare available to the people of northern, eastern and central Maine. Included among the programs and events Healthcare Charities supports are:
Lifetime of Care Campaign (Pledge Now)
Children's Miracle Network of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems
The Children's Miracle Network is the largest non-profit
foundation for pediatric services in North America, and is composed of 170+ hospital affiliations throughout the United States and Canada. It's purpose is to raise funds and community awareness for children's services available at local hospitals. CMN is unique in that 100% of the money raised in this area stays here to benefit the children of Eastern Maine Healthcare. Services of CMN-EMHS are provided at:
CMN raises funds to provide medical equipment, therapy supplies, staff training and wellness services at our EMHS affiliates. CMN is led by a committee of volunteers representing communities from throughout the greater Bangor-Brewer area. Anyone wishing to volunteer their time and talents to this cause should contact the CMN office at 973-5055 for more information.
CMN volunteer-led fundraising efforts are highlighted by several significant events throughout the year, including:

- CMN Radiothon - KISS 94.5
- Spring-O-Rama
- Telethon - WABI-TV5
- CMN Golf Classic
- Enchanted Forest
- Bids for Kids
The CMN Radiothon for 2008 will be broadcast over Clear Channel KISS 94.5 FM and emanates from center court of the Bangor Mall April 10, 11, 12.
The CMN Telethon for 2008 will be telecast on WABI-TV 5, also from center court of the Bangor Mall, on May 31, 2008.
Both the Radiothon and the Telethon provide opportunities to involve listening and viewing audiences in the heart of the CMN story: the lives of pediatric patients who have experienced the "miracles" of excellent pediatric healthcare close to home. Patient families, physicians, nurses, therapists and healthcare
providers share their stories on air, helping to increase community awareness of the need for continued excellence in the provision of pediatric healthcare throughout this area of Maine. Since its beginnings at Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems in 1988, CMN volunteers have helped to raise over $4 Million for local pediatric services, with more than half that amount raised in the past four years!

Ways to Give
The ways in which people give through Healthcare Charities are nearly as numerous as the reasons they choose to do so. From a few hours of your time volunteering for the Children's Miracle Network, to the establishment of an endowment fund to benefit future generations, your gift through Healthcare Charities helps to ensure exceptional healthcare remains available to the people of Maine, right here at home. In addition, you may direct your gift to a specific service or member of the Eastern Maine Healthcare family, or you may choose to allow Healthcare Charities to direct the money to where ever the need is greatest. Here are some of the most common ways people choose to support our local healthcare system:
Cash Donation
This continues to be the most common way people make a gift through Healthcare Charities. Donations may be made by check, or charged to Discover, VISA or MasterCard.
Matching Gifts
Many organizations and companies have programs in place that will match your gift, maximizing your support. Under this program, you are recognized for the full value of both gifts. Check with your company about this option.
Gifts of Appreciated Securities
These are publicly traded stocks that have appreciated in value and have been held in value for more than twelve months. Gifts of this type allow you to support health and wellness in our community while taking the full fair market value of the stock as an income tax deduction, and bypassing all capital gains taxes.
Bequests
Leaving a gift of real estate, property, or cash is a wonderful way to create a legacy of caring and support for the well being of the people of Maine.
Endowments
Establishment of an endowment fund will provide support for this region's healthcare services for generations to come. Endowments might be in honor of family, friends, businesses, or some other special relationship. A minimum donation of $2,500 is required to establish an endowment fund.
Corporate Giving
A healthy work force and community are key to the economic well being or our region. That's why businesses and corporations have been instrumental in the growth and improvement of healthcare available through Eastern Maine Healthcare. There are numerous ways companies and organizations can contribute such as partnering with Healthcare Charities in sponsoring one of our events, annual corporate club level donations and establishment of a corporate matching gift program which encourages employees to support their local healthcare system.
